Revolutionary Road
April and Frank Wheeler are a young, ostensibly thriving couple living with their two children in a prosperous Connecticut suburb in the mid-1950s. However, like the characters in John Updike's similarly themed Couples, the self-assured exterior masks a creeping frustration at their inability to feel fulfilled in their relationships or careers. Frank is mired in a well-paying but boring office job and April is a housewife still mourning the demise of her hoped-for acting career. Determined to identify themselves as superior to the mediocre sprawl of suburbanites who surround them, they decide to move to France where they will be better able to develop their true artistic sensibilities, free of the consumerist demands of capitalist America. As their relationship deteriorates into an endless cycle of squabbling, jealousy and recriminations, their trip and their dreams of self-fulfillment are thrown into jeopardy.
I finished reading this novel on the plane to Honolulu. Then early last week, I watched Estela's "bootlegged" copy of Sam Mendes' adaptation of Revolutionary Road. Having read the book, I actually thought it stayed true to the book. . . . since I've finished school, I'm really enjoying reading "fun" books or at least anything that isn't remotely anesthesia related! . . . feel free to let me know what you're reading . . .

Estela comes to visit . . .
Yes, you're looking at the correct date . . . Estela comes to visit the very NEXT day of my arrival BEFORE my husband even has the chance. She has been back in forth between China and the U.S. and she just can't make up her mind where she wants to be. My advice: "Just pick a country already, Stel!"
After the sleeping zombie finally woke up, we went to try this Japanese place called Ichiriki and shared a dish called "Nabe." It is a Japanese winter soup made with broth

Aloha!
Aloha!
I thought I'd jump on the band wagon and start a journal of my move to Hawaii. So, for those that don't know, I did a 2 month clinical residency last summer here in Honolulu. They liked me and I returned to the mainland with a nice tan and a job offer. After much thought, we decided this opportunity was too good to pass up.
For now, I've gone ahead of John to start work. Luckily, my classmate, Mary Grace, is letting me live with her for now. And how great it is to start at a new place & new job with someone you know, let alone a great friend! Then, John and Moseley will move out here by April-May. We're waiting for Moseley's quarantine process. Thankfully, he's able to do most of it at home.
So, once we're settled in, we hope all will take the chance to come visit! I'm going to keep my cell number, but here's my temporary address:
909 Kapiolani Blvd, #1201
